Research

Here at Tropical World, we are dedicated to facilitating and conducting scientific research related to the improvement of captive animal welfare standards, and to the benefit of wild animal conservation. Scientific research at Tropical World can also help us understand our visitors, as well as the value of our educational output. The World Zoo and Aquaria Conservation strategy clearly states that participation in research is essential for all modern zoological institutions.

Do you want to conduct a research project at Tropical World?

Please read our research policy and research strategy, then contact us at: tropicalworld.research@leeds.gov.uk for an application form.

Please note at present we are only able to consider research project applications from undergraduates, MSc and PhD students, as well as professional researchers.

Additionally, we can only consider applications for projects that are non-invasive and primarily collect data through animal observations.

Sustainability

We aim to provide facilities and green spaces that increase wildlife and biodiversity, are full of nature and will help reduce the likelihood and impact of climate change. We will do this by raising awareness and active participation in conservation. We will protect, enhance, and create wildlife habitats such as woodlands, meadows, ponds, and hedgerows.

Read our sustainability policy to find out how we're creating a sustainable Zoo.
