Volunteer with us!

If you have an interest in all things animals, and you're looking to volunteer some of your time, we'd love to hear from you.

We want to accommodate animal team volunteers to ensure both the goals and objectives of the zoo are met, as well as providing training opportunities for volunteers who maintain an interest in captive animal husbandry.

Tropical World will commit to support volunteers with the necessary induction and training to ensure the development of relevant skills and experience.

Volunteers will be given opportunities to learn and develop new skills, meet new people, make industry contacts and get up close and personal with our animals.

Volunteer roles

Duties will involve assisting the animal team with some of the routine day-to-day tasks required to run the Tropical World animal collection. This includes but is not limited to, preparing and distributing animal feed, cleaning animal enclosures and visitor areas, theming animal enclosures, recording environmental data and much much more.

If this sounds like you, request more information and the expression of interest form by emailing Nathan.Wright@leeds.gov.uk.

Horticultural/gardening volunteering in our Butterfly house

We are currently recruiting horticultural/gardening volunteers to work in our Butterfly house. This forms part of a larger project to promote butterfly breeding and activity in the area. Duties would mainly involve, pruning, picking over, planting etc. It is worth noting the Tropical house environment, it is warm and will be a very different environment to working outside so will not suit everyone's disposition. We can accommodate regular volunteer days per week or ad-hoc days with enough notice. Hours per day can be flexible from 3 to 6 hours.

If you would like to be involved in this project, please email Abigail.Hardwick@leeds.gov.uk.
